Work on Barak, Makru bridges progressing

Imphal, June 27 2019:
The construction works at Barak and Makru bridges, located along the Imphal-Jiribam road (NH 37) are advancing at a rapid pace to meet its deadline which is set for April next year as per an agreement.
Even though the construction work is hampered constantly due to law and order situation as well as bandhs and blockades by CSOs, the construction of the pillars of both bridges have been completed successfully.
According to a source from National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL), the Barak bridge will have two foot pillars on each side while Makru bridge will have a pillar on one side (Imphal side) and two pillars on the other side (Jiribam side).
Work on pillars have been completed successfully and installation of caps above the said pillars is underway.
After this is finished, concrete and composite structuring will commence over the pillars, the source explained, adding that by then, people will be able to make out a brief structure of the bridges.
The said works might take around 3-4 months to complete, the source added.
It may be mentioned that based on the rate of financial year 2016-17, it was calculated that the construction of the two bridges would require round Rs 107 crore.
The construction work is handled by M/S Bhartia Infra Project Limited as the work agency.
