Imphal, July 29 2013:
Altogether 918 loaded trucks heading towards Imphal have been stranded along the deplorable Imphal-Jiribam Road (NH-37) after a truck broke down in the middle of the road.
The stranded trucks included 26 petrol tankers, 16 diesel tankers, 26 LPG bullets and two kerosene tankers, an IOC official told Hueiyen Lanpao.
According to the transporters, more than 60 trucks have been stranded near Awang Khul.
A large number of trucks are also stranded at Irang, Sibilong and Barak.
Among the stranded trucks, there are 182 trucks ferrying rice for FCI, 113 trucks carrying cement, 30 trucks carrying urea and two trucks carrying oxygen.
Talking to Hueiyen Lanpo over phone, a truck driver said that the trucks left Jiribam for Imphal today morning.
However, a goods laden truck moving in front of the petroleum tankers suddenly broke down in the middle of the road.
All attempts to repair the vehicle were in vain.
Moreover, the vehicle could not be moved aside.
The transporters have to spend a night along the highway, he noted.

The driver further said that the BRTF officials refused to render assistance in repairing the vehicle saying that they are concerned only with road development.
The BRTF has not even sent a dozer to move aside the broken-down vehicle, he lamented.
Meanwhile, the State is facing acute shortage of petroleum products for the past few weeks due to landslide along NH-2 at Phesema in Nagaland.
People have to stand in long queues right from the night just to procure few litres of petrol from the oil pumps.
Subscribers of Hueiyen Lanpao keep on ringing the office telephone enquiring about oil allocation in advance.
On the other hand, black marketers are flourishing in the State with petrol selling at over Rs.130 at several places.
Many women are now seen selling petrol on road side along state and national highways defying prohibitions of law enforcers.
