CM rushes to Delhi, curfew imposed

Even as Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh rushed to New Delhi this afternoon to meet Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde over the inflaming Chandel incident and curfew imposed till 6 am tomorrow to contain the situation, six police personnel including an ASI and five other VDF personnel have been placed under suspension for 'their gross misconduct and dereliction of duty' on the day of the incident.
According to two separate orders issued by SP of Chandel district today, the six police personnel who have been suspended from service with immediate effect to facilitate disciplinary proceeding against them are ASI HB Roshan Anal of Reserve Line, Chandel; Head Constable KL Behalshing Anal of Chandel Police Station, Constable (0906021) Kh Phungthei of Chandel Police Station, Constable (0906038) Modarphun of Chandel Police Station, Constable (0906061) Lunkholen of Chandel Police Station and Constable (0906048) Kenath of Chandel Police Station while the five VDF personnel are Moshilpha (2010127) of Chandel Police Station, Rona (201018) of Chandel Police Station, Koningwar (2010200) of Chandel Police Station, Kanshem (201014) of Chandel Police Station and Lunminthang (2010305) of Chandel police station.

All the suspended personnel have been directed to remain at their respective headquarters, which shall be the Reserve Line and not to leave the District headquarters without obtaining prior permission of the SP.
Meanwhile, addressing a press conference at his office chamber located at Old Secretariat here this evening, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, who is also in charge of Home, has assured that Chief Minister O Ibobi who had left Imphal for New Delhi this afternoon to meet with Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde over the Chandel incident will put pressure to Shinde to take appropriate steps to book the NSCN-IM cadre involved in the incident.
Gaikhangam informed that State Government has already dispatched a written intimation to the Central Government regarding the incident.
The step has been taken up by State Government as it would be more convenient from the Central Government side to deal with NSCN-IM which is now going through peace talks with the former.
Reiterating that he condemns the incident in the strongest possible terms, Gaikhangam informed that search operations are still being carried out in the area and its surroundings where the incident took place to nab the culprit.
The Deputy Chief Minister also said he has instructed the top officials of IGAR (S) to carry out raids in all the areas in Chandel district where cadres of NSCN-IM are suspected to be present besides all the police stations in the nine districts have been issued alerts.
Furthermore, he appealed to Film Forum Manipur and Manipur Shumang Leela Council to call off the general strike in the interest of the public and the Christmas festival.
