Sit-in demands death penalty

A sit-in-protest staged at Moirang Hanuba Leirak against the murder of Pheiroijam Kundaleima demanded death penalty for the main accused Ph Boy.
The protest demonstration was staged under the aegis of the coordination committee on the brutal killing of Ph Kundaleima.
The protesters urged Manipur Police to frame due charge-sheet without undue delay.
Notably, Pheiroijam Kundaleima was lying on bed when Pheiroijam Boy stabbed her on the abdomen four times leading to the tragic death at around 1.30 pm of March 8, the International Women's Day.
Boy is the eldest son of late Pheiroijam Premkumar who was the youngest brother of Kundaleima.
Kundaleima was elected as Member of Takyel Gram Panchayat twice and she once held the post of Up-Pradhan.
She was also a committed social activists and she took key roles in the mass protest movement of 2004 against the rape and murder of Thangjam Manorama by Assam Rifles personnel.
For her role in the sustained protest movement, Kundaleima was arrested and imprisoned for three months.
Even the National Security Act was invoked against her.
Saying that the death of Kundaleima is a big loss for the people of Moirang Hanuba Leikai, convenor of the coordinating committee Oinam Mangilal urged the Government to act promptly and ensure that justice is done without undue delay.
The accused Ph Boy was pulled up local club volunteers of Khoijuman, Bishnupur district at around 10.30 p of March 8.He was handed over to Bishnupur Police and then to Lamphel Police.
Some years back, Boy was pulled by the Moirang Hanuba Youth Development Club in connection with abuse of SP capsules.
The protesters put up placards which read as "We condemn Kundaleima's murder", "Let's uproot all intoxicating substances", Hang Ph Boy to death", "Intoxicating substances had its hand in Kundaleima's murder", "Stop crime against women" etc.
