Ukhrul: Khangkhui Khullen villagers repair PMGSY road

Ukhrul, January 08 2019: Villagers of Khangkhui Khullen have repaired PMGSY road from Nungshang junction to Khangkhui Khunou village via Khangkhui Khullen.

Large sections of the 8 kms long stretch were damaged in the rainy season, said the villagers who with shovels and hoes repaired the road.

Khangkhui Katamnao Long (KKL) Village Students' Organization president R Kasar expressed that the village had approached the contractor concerned and the work supervisor of MSRRDA on many occasions for maintenance and reconstruction of the road.

With authorities concerned paying no heed to the appeals, the villagers including women took up spades and started the reconstruction works, he said.

The villagers in group of 50-60 people have been working on the road daily since January 5, he added.

President KKL stated that Khangkhui Khullen will host the Veikhang Katamnao General Conference Cum Sport Meets from January 16-22.It is a conference for students of nine areas/villages of Veikhang, Ukhrul.

The PMGSY road leads to Khangkhui Mangsor Cave, a popular tourist destination.

Saying that the villagers had no choice but to clear debris and reconstruct the road before the conference, another student leader, Mingyao appealed the authorities concerned for early intervention and reconstruction of the road in public interest.

The KKL urged State Government to look into grievances of the villagers and also appealed appropriate action against the contractor concerned for his 'negligence' in the work of the PMGSY road.
