International bus parking to come up at Moreh ahead of bus service

As a special measure to make Moreh a centre of economic activities of the State, the government has made all necessary arrangement for setting up of an international bus parking at the border town at an estimated cost of Rs 1000 lakh prior to commencement of the proposed Imphal-Mandalay bus service.
Official sources said a project was sent by the State government to the Central Government for setting up the international bus parking at Moreh and the the Central Government has earmarked an amount of Rs 1000 lakh in the 13th Finance Commission award.
The international bus parking will have modern parking slots, world class restaurant where various traditional cuisines will be available, guest house including neat and clean toilets.
Plan for acquiring all required materials including sketching the design for the proposed parking have been already completed and the government is also discussing which work agency should be entrusted with the construction work.
Apart from setting up of the international bus parking, the Central Government is also showing keen interest on starting the Imphal-Mandalay bus service as soon as possible.
In this regard, a delegation of Ministry of Road Transport & Highway led by its Joint Secretary Niraj Barma had signed a memorandum of understanding and agreed upon other related protocols with their Myanmarese counterparts during an inter ministerial technical level meeting held at Yangon recently.
The bus service from Imphal to Mandalay, covering a distance of about 579 km, will take around 14 hours and the fare charge per head will be under Rs 2000 .
During the meeting, the Indian delegation was also appraised by the Maynmarese authority about the progress on the construction of Kalewa-Yargaryi road and 70 bridges along Tamu-Kalewa friendship road with assistance from India.
The bridges will pass along the upcoming India-Myanmar-Thailand trilateral highway.
