Ukhrul, September 03 2018:
The Sinakeithei Village Authority has appealed to the authorities concerned to provide immediate assistance and relief to the people of the village following the recent incessant rains which wreaked havoc in the area.
A joint press release issued by the chairman of the Sinakeithei Village Authority, Ukhrul and chairman of LCR Committee mentioned that the incessant rains caused a major landslide between August 11 and 12, burying the entire Ihang river dam site and leaving an affected area of around 800 ft long, 300 ft wide and 30 ft deep in its wake.
It explained that the dam used to provide irrigation facilities via the Lungchang Chihui canal to around 300 acres of farmland in Ihang area.
The dam is also a source of drinking water for 3000 people and the complete blockage of the dam has caused untold misery to the farmers as the fields have dried up and the people are facing acute shortage of drinking water, it added.
Pointing out that Lungchang Chihui canal has been the sole lifeline of the people since 1955, it appealed to the authorities concerned to take up necessary steps for alleviating the suffering of the people at the earliest.
