Moirang, July 01 2020:
Though the Agriculture Department has assured to provide fertilizers to farmers of the State, only 5 percent of farmers in Kumbi Kendra have got the promised fertilizers, said the founder president of Chonga Foundation Wangoo, Shagolsem Bangkimchandra.
Questioning in which State are Aadhar card and land patta made compulsory to receive subsidised fertilizers from the Government, the founder president asserted that tenant farmers in the kendra are gripped by fear of having failed harvest this season.
He also said that as much as 75 percent of farmers in the kendra are tenants who don't own any land patta.
Saying that not all 60 ACs of the State require fertilizers as certain Constituencies don't have rice fields, Bangkimchandra opined that distributing fertilizers through MLAs concerned won't serve the intended purpose.
Some farmers, even without having lunch, stood in a queue in front of the office of Agriculture Department, Bishnupur for over 10 hours to get a bag of fertilizer, he said and lamented that not taking up any initiative to ease the hardship of farmers by the State Government indicates that they don't consider farmers as a fellow human.
He then cautioned that they will launch intense agitation by joining hands with different farmers' organisation if the farmers are not provided the required fertilizers at the earliest.
Pradhan of Wangoo Terakhong Gram Panchayat, P Baleshwor also appealed to the department concerned to provide fertilizers to tenant farmers too.
