Organic vegetables from Ukhrul, Pherzawl available at Sanjenthong organic outlet

Director of Horticulture and Soil Conservation, N Joymati Devi has stated that organic vegetables from Ukhrul and Pherzawl districts are now available at an organic outlet at Sanjenthong.
Speaking to media persons at the Sanjenthong office of the Department, N Joymati Devi said that Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA) of Department of Horticulture and Soil Conservation has been promoting organic farming in the State and will continue to do so.
Saying that the Department is helping the organic farmers of the State by making their vegetables which are grown under the aegis of MOMA available in different organic outlets, the Director asserted that the initiative will surely improve the socio-economic conditions of many farmers.
Director of MOMA, K Devdutta Sharma said that organic products they grew from 2016 to 2019 worth about Rs 33 crore have been exported to other States.
For this year, turmeric (200 metric tonne), ginger (400 metric tonne) have been exported so far, he said, adding that there is depletion in export quantity due to the ongoing lockdown.
The Director also stated that airlifting of homegrown pineapples to Delhi, Chandigarh and Bengaluru is proceeding.
Vegetables and fruits such as cauliflower, pumpkin, passion fruit and plum are also grown by several farmers with the help of MOMA in hill areas, he added.
