Imphal, July 01 2020:
Women vendors on Wednesday set an ultimatum of 5 days to the Government to open the Ima Keithel, which have been closed since March 22 .
If the Government does not facilitate opening of the market within five days, women vendors will open the market on the sixth day following COVID-19 safety norms, said Mayang Lang Phijoi Nupi Lup member Th Pishangcha today.
Speaking to media persons, Pishangcha said that even though the recent guideline of the Government has allowed shops to open from 5 am to 6 pm, the women vendors are not allowed to open their stalls.
Stating that the women vendors who are facing immense hardships due to the lockdown have no alternative means to earn their livelihood, she said the Government should allow them to open stalls on a rotation basis.
The women vendors can be grouped according to their stall number and allowed to sell goods, she said, appealing the Govt to hear their plea and facilitate opening of the market in a way that would not compromise the health of the public.
If the Government remains adamant to their plea, they would open the market themselves following safety guidelines of the health authority.
They would wear masks and maintain physical distancing, she said.
