Imphal, May 16 2017:
Ethno-
Heritage Council
(HERICOUN) today observed
its foundation day alongside the
8th Khangminansi Eramdam
quiz competition at GM Hall.
The observance was
graced by Speaker Y
Khemchand, HERICOUN
president L Ratankumar and
Manipur Sahitya Parishad,
Assam president Karam
Ibohal as the chief guest,
president and guest of honour.
Speaking at the occasion,
Speaker Khemchand said,
"We have members of
Manipur Sahitya Parishad,
Assam in our midst today
who have come to attend the
observance.
However, it is
unfortunate to hear that
Meiteis settling in Assam are
not given the facility to learn
Manipuri language in
schools.
I would personally
apprise the matter to the Assam
Government to take up
necessary step regarding
this."
Lauding HERICOUN for
organising Khangminasi
Eramdam quiz competition,
the Speaker said, "It is a must
for students to know about
the State in depth.
Earlier,
students who can copy in the
exams were considered as
excellent students.
Due to
extensive campaign launched
by various organisations, we
can now see parents dropping
their children for coaching
classes and encouraging them.
In the past, people who could
not even read properly were
recruited as teachers and we
still are bearing the brunt of
that wrongful step.
The North
East region or the country as
a whole cannot be called a
developed region or country
unless Manipur achieves an
overall development.
As such,
it is our duty to contribute
our part and bring better
changes in the State."
HERICOUN president L
Ratankumar said that the
council has been organising
awareness programmes on
health, education, culture and
economic growth for the last
15 years.
Not only that,
HERICOUN has been also
actively participating in solving
various socio-economic
problems prevailing in the
State.
