Cop testifies in BT Road firing case

Continuing with the trial of the July 23
BT Road firing case, an Inspector of Manipur Police gave his
statement before the Sessions Court Imphal West today.
Konjenbam Chandrasekhar (Reserved Inspector,
Bishnupur police), the then Sub-Inspector of Singjamei
police gave his statement as the prosecution witness number
96 of the case.
In his deposition, the Inspector submitted that he had
assisted S Ibomcha, the then SDPO Imphal police station
during the course of the investigation of the firing case
which was later handed over to SIT and then to CBI.
He stated that he along with Clay Khongsai, the
then SP Thoubal had went to Delhi in 2009 to interrogate former
editor of Tehelka magazine, Tarun Tejpal and former managing
editor of the magazine, Shoma Choudhury in connection with the
case.
The Inspector admitted that he recorded the statement of
Tarun Tejpal and Shoma Choudhury who were also questioned by
Clay Khongsai and him.
He further submitted that he also recorded the statement of
Teresa Rehman of the magazine in Guwahati after returning
from Delhi.
However, none of them gave the details of the photographs
published in their magazine on August 8 and 15, 2009, he
stated.
He went on to submit before the Court that the statements
of three of them recorded by him were handed over to
CBI at the time of transferring the case to the investigation
agency.
His statement was cross examined by counsels of all
the accused in the case except for Head Constable Th Herojit.
Discharging him from the trial of the case, the Court fixed
May 26 for deposition of next witness of the case.
Except Y Munal, Jagat and Th Herojit, all the accused in
the case were present in today's Court proceeding.
The trial of the case is on before the Sessions Court under
case number 57 of 2015 CBI versus Y Munal and eight
others.
