Diesel prices hiked steeply

Imphal, September 14 2012:
Following the revision of diesel prices by the Government of India, price of diesel (normal) has been hiked by Rs 5.67 and Extra Mile diesel by Rs 19.71 at Imphal.
This means normal diesel now costs Rs 46.85 per litre while Extra Mile variety of diesel costs Rs 65.89 per litre.
These rates would be applicable in all districts except Churachandpur and Jiribam.
The revised prices of normal diesel in Churachandpur and Jiribam are Rs 46.86 and Rs 46.97 respectively.
The corresponding figures for Extra Mile are Rs 65.90 and Rs 66.01 per litre respectively.
The revised prices came into force since September 14 .
The price of Extra Mile diesel was hiked by Rs 19.71 because the Government has withdrawn subsidy given to this category of diesel.
Following the price hike and subsequent official intimation, IOC's Imphal depot has not been releasing Extra Mile diesel presently.
Information received from the depot said that the intimation not to release Extra Mile diesel was conveyed as it would take sometime to upload the new prices in computer system.
Extra Mile diesel is manufactured by mixing an additive in normal diesel.
To turn 12 Kls of normal diesel into Extra Mile diesel by mixing additive, it costs around Rs 60,000 .
Generally, Extra Mile diesel is not used in commercial vehicles but in luxury and private vehicles, added the source.
