Imphal, March 22 2009:
The patent rights of indigenous weeds (Kouna) should be acquired so as to claim it as the product of the land before the world, feels Ratan Luwangcha.
Speaking as the Chief Guest on the third day of Yening Keithel (craft bazar) at Thoubal organised by the Women Income Generation Centre (WIGC), Ratan Luwangcha, the editor of Hueiyen Lanpao (Manipuri edition) said that the efforts of WIGC in trying to provide opportunity to women to generate income at their own is laudable.
WIGC has provided means for self survival to around 1500 families.
He said that WIGC has provided various means of survival to several widows.
This has enabled them to stand on their own.
He further pointed out that the effort of the WIGC has also proved wrong the notion that women must depend on men.
He said that it is also encouraging to note that the products of Kouna have been exported to other parts of the land at the initiative of WIGC.
He also encouraged the women to come out with greater production by employing new design and technology while also persuading the women to update the products.
Urging to cultivate work culture, Ratan also said that one must not feel shy to work.
Today's function was also attended by FIHRD Consultant, Dr NK; RIMS Secretary, Indira Oinam and Dr A Rajen as the president and guests of honour.
