Taking the bilateral relationship and cooperation between India and Myanmar to a higher plane, the Government of India has extended assistance to the Myanmarese Government in the form of a consignment of road construction materials.
The materials were handed over to Brig Gen Tin Muang Ohn, Deputy Commander, North West Command, Myanmar Army at a function held at Sunrise Youth Club ground, Moreh Ward No 4 today.
The Indian delegates were led by IG AR (South) Maj Gen CA Krishnan while the Myanmarese delegates were led by Brig Gen Tin Muang Ohn.
The Indian goodwill gesture was organised by 31 Assam Rifles and 9 Engineer Regiment of 57 Mountain Division under the aegis of
Hqs 3 Corps.
In the first phase of a fourphase project consisting a total of 14 engineering plants, equipment and 18 tippers, one bull dozer (BD 80) along with 46 types of spares and accessories of dozers, nine types of spares and accessories of tippers were handed over today.
Today's function also featured cultural shows presented Myanmar, Mizo/Naga cultural troupes as well as band display by school students, Bharat Natyam show and Indian trumpet show.
After signing a Memorandum of Understanding by the delegates of the two countries, keys of the dozer were handed over to the Myanmarese delegates.
Speaking at the occasion, IG AR (S) Maj Gen CA Krishnan said that after exchange of cooperation at different levels and on different occasions earlier, today's bilateral meet would further strengthen the Indo-Myanmar friendship.
He said that such goodwill meetingswere needed at regular intervals were needed at regular intervals in order to sustain and bring closer the two neighbouring countries.
Brig Gen Tin Muang Ohn, while acknowledging the cooperation and assistance received from the Government of India, said that the aid received today would help in expediting development works in rural areas of Myanmar.
The function culminated with exchange of gifts between the Indian and Myanmarese delegates.
