District Fishery Officer accused

District Fishery Officer (DFO), Imphal East, H Biramani has been accused of hitting a person with the butt of his licensed gun on the head.
The victim Sagolsem Suranjoy is the former personal assistant (PA) of MLA H Ratankumar.
In a press conference held in this regard at Manipur Press Club, Secretary of Ikop Ningthou Ngayok Marup, Uchiwa, N Ranjan said, the incident occurred inside the office chamber of H Biramani on July 11 .
Ranjan added, Ngayok Marup President Md Lukuma, Suranjoy and himself went to meet the DFO to discuss matters about loan and subsidy that the DFO had earlier promised to them.
However, Ranjan added, before having any healthy discussion, DFO's escorts bashed up him and Lukuma by dragging outside DFOs office chamber while Suranjoy was asked to switch off his mobile phone by the DFO at gun point and subsequently hit him with the butt of his gun on head.
They were then handed over to the police, Ranjan said adding that police however released them as it was ascertained that they were innocent.
Ranjan accused the DFO of collecting Rs 50 thousand to Rs 1 lakh each from different ngayok marups (fish farmers' group) on the pretext of providing loan and subsidy.
Ranjan urged the authority concerned to confiscate the licensed gun from the DFO not to recur such incidents.
Requesting the authority concerned to direct the DFO to refund the collected amount to respective ngayok marups Ranjan also urged to appoint another officer as DFO, Imphal East.
