Troops of 20 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) located at the permanent vehicle check post of Bongyang confiscated two bags containing 304 horns of wild deer on January 30 from a bus bearing registration no.MN04-7358.According to a statement issued by PRO Assam Rifles, these bags were found hidden in the rear of the bus.
Initial inquiry revealed that the driver Jamkhonga Touthang (45) of Imphal and his accomplice Thangihen (17) of Langol were given these bags in Imphal to be handed over in Moreh.
Seized items along with the culprits have been headed over to police, the PRO said.
This is the third incident of this nature wherein vigilance of Assam Rifles troops have resulted in confiscation of endangered wild life parts being smuggled out of the country, the PRO said, while recalling that on September 9, 2007, AR troops had confiscated 1.850 kg of deer antlers and 16 nos of Mongoose skin.
