Imphal, December 26 2020:
The Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) Student's Wing demanded the Government to make it public how the ILP is being implemented in the State.
Speaking to media persons during a press meet, convenor of the student's wing, Sazad Bhuiyamayum said the President of India issued an order on December 11, 2019 that Bengal Eastern Frontier Act will be extended in Manipur.
Accordingly, the Act was implemented in the State from January 1, 2020 and the Government started issuing permits thereafter.
However, there is no formal update till now how the act is being implemented and how many permits have been issued so far and also regarding its renewal procedures thereby leading to many doubts on the effectiveness of the Act.
Also, there is no clear information whether the non Manipuris are given new permits or the permits which they possess are renewed or not for staying in Manipur.
They alleged that there are many loopholes in the implementation process where the base year has not been mentioned clearly, no proper definition of indigenous people and so on.
The student wing warned that they may conduct a drive anytime to check the implementation process and whether the permits are renewed regularly or not.
Ahead of such a drive, they appealed to the Government to take initiatives accordingly to avoid any untoward incidents and also demanded the Home Department open a special cell so that ILPS can be properly implemented.
