Police thwart grenade attacks

With the seizure of three hand grenades and three detonators along with courier, a combined team of Porompat Police and Reserve Line Police have successfully thwarted grenade attacks on Government officials.
Speaking to media persons in his office today, Officer in Charge (OC) of Porompat police station K Geetchandra said that three grenades were intended to hurl at the residences of an officer of Khadi and Village Industries at Lamphel, one employee of Public Works Department (PWD) at Singjamei and one Engineer of Minor Irrigation Department at Tera Sapam on June 20 .
The combined team apprehended one Gurumayum (O) Prabha alias Chamu (40) of Ningthoukhong Gopinath Leikai but staying at aunt's place at Bamon Leikai Nahabam from near Bamon Leikai basketball ground this morning.
The three hand grenades along with detonators were handed over to Prabha alias Chamu by one KC Meitei of KCP-MC (Chumthang) through another courier for further hand over to auto-rickshaw driver Md Abdul Kalam (28) of Porompat Pangal Leirak.
After the arrest of Prabha, Abdul Kalam was pulled was also pulled up from his home along with the hand grenades, Officer in Charge Geetchandra said while adding that they have been watching the movement of Prabha alias Chamu for quite sometime following some specific intelligence inputs.
It is reported that Prabha alias Chamu was arrested earlier by Moirang Police and Bishnupur Police.
