Imphal, April 11 2020:
All Tribal Rights Protection Forum Manipur (ATRPFM) has condemned lack of transparency in the distribution of PDS and essential items amidst the global Covid-19 pandemic that have also affected the State, said a press release issued by ATRPFM.
The forum has alleged that State Government despite announcing to public free distribution of rice quota of 5 kgs per head and upto a maximum of 25 kgs per family, have been unable to keep its own words.
Further, Central Government vide its "Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana" scheme had guaranteed free distribution of food grains and pulses for the month of April, May and June, 2020 .
Despite the above orders, the forum claimed that many individuals have not received their due quota and charged the administration of not following its own order in letter and spirit.
The forum therefore sought immediate necessary steps to avoid leakage along the supply chain in this time of crisis.
ATRPFM additionally highlighted hiking of essential items by wholesalers on pretext of lockdown which have led to commodities being sold at higher prices at retail shops and sought attention of departments concerned.
The Tribal forum further sought support of the public in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic and requested house owners and State Government to waive rent, fees etc of students, non-salaried individuals/families and also non-imposition of any tax along the National Highways.
