Imphal, May 08 2019:
Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has demanded the State Government and the Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BOSEM) to bring a definite conclusion to the mark tabulation scandal of High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) Examination 2018, before the result for the HSLC 2019 is declared.
Speaking to media persons at DESAM office at Sagolband Moirang Leirak today, its secretary general Sheetal Oinam said that the result for HSLC 2018 was announced on May 25 last year and some students filed RTI as they were not satisfied with the marks awarded to them.
This led to the revelation of many mark tabulation errors as well as unexplained cancellation of marks during answer checking, he said, adding that finally on July 15 last year, following intense pressure from DESAM, various student bodies and guardians, the State Government ordered an investigation by a three member inquiry committee.
Till today, DESAM has been demanding the authority to make the public aware of the report submitted by the inquiry committee and to appropriately punish all the culprits involved in the case.
Sheetal continued that at that time, Director of Education (S) took charge as the Chairman of BOSEM and the officials posted as Secretary and Controller of Examinations of the Board, were sent back to the parent Department.
He also added that the report of the inquiry committee was submitted to the State Government on October 24 last year.
However, he alleged that the State Government has swept the inquiry report under the carpet, apart from failing to take up any kind of action against any involved parties.
The guardians also filed RTIs demanding the report to be made public but to no avail, he added.
Sheetal then expressed desire to question the Education Minister and the State Government, how the education system of the State can be corrected when a tangible conclusion to such a small matter is nowhere to be seen even till date.
DESAM's stand is still the same in that the inquiry report should be made public and the culprits involved should be punished, all before the result of the HSLC 2019 examination is announced, he said.
Sheetal also demanded the Sate Information Commissioner to make sure that the report reaches the complainants within a week's time.
