Social researcher lists losses of bandhs

Social researcher Serto Tondana Kom has claimed that from 2017 till 2018 March, the State has lost around Rs 353.8 crore due to bandh.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, he said that as per the Census Department the population of Manipur is 28,55,794 and according to the Manipur economic survey report 2016-17 collected from the Department of Economic and Statistic, the per capita for all sector is Rs 61,535 and the minimum wages is Rs 250 per day.
According to the official information report collected from the IGP (Intelligence) there were 23 days of bandh/general strike in the State from 2017 till 2018 March although no economic blockades were reported.
Due to the impact of bandhs and general strikes, the State lost Rs 15,38,37,500 crore per day and due to 23 days bandh, the State lost Rs 353.82 crore during the said period, he said Looking back to 2016-17 there were 127 days of bandh, general strikes and 179 days of economic blockade and on average, Manipur lost Rs 2,616.23 crore he said.
He also pointed out that the situation has marginally improved in the recent past most probably due to the efficient handling of the situation by the present Government.
Expressing desire to organize a mass awareness programme against the effects of bandh and blockade, impact on common people and loss of huge amount of money, he said that awareness is very much needed in the society so as to ensure that bandh and blockade culture is eradicated.
