Media workshop on "HIV & AIDS Act, 2017" held at Hotel Shalom

The Khelen Thokchom Foundation Trust Manipur in collaboration with Manipur State AIDS Control Society (MACS) organised a 1-day media workshop on "HIV & AIDS (prevention and control) Act, 2017" at Hotel Shalom Wino Bazar, Ukhrul on Wednesday.
It was attended by District AIDS Control Officer Ukhrul & Kamjong district, Dr Yuithingla Vashum and KTT Trust advisor, Arun Elangbam as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Yuithingla Vashum gave a brief scenario and datas of HIV & AIDS in Ukhrul and Kamjong districts.
"There are 1250 persons taking ART, People Living with HIV is 1786 and the number of deaths related to HIV/AIDS as per records is 440", said Dr Yuithingla.
State TI Co-ordinator, MACS, Ksh Deepak deliberated on a multi sectoral approach to eliminate HIV from the population.
"The change of HIV transmission from drug injection to sexual transmission is clear indication that the population are now vulnerable and high probability of HIV infection in the two districts", he added.
Omajit Leishangthem, IEC & Mainstreaming, MACS spoke on HIV and AIDS (Prevention & Control) Act 2017 and Ombudsman for redressal of grievances .
Phanjoubam Lanngamba, Assistant Director IEC & Mainstreaming, MACS elaborated on "Media ethics on reporting HIV/AIDS as per guidelines issued by Press Council of India" .
Arun Elangbam informed that KTT Trust was formed by a group of like minded journalists as a tribute and in memory of Khelen Thokchom to support young journalists of the State.
