Tamenglong DC cracks whip to preserve environment

District Magistrate, Tamenglong has today issued an order banning killing of birds within Tamenglong town area (5 sq km radius) and complete ban on trading/selling of wild animals' meat in public space and market areas.
The order has been issued keeping in mind the necessity to protect and preserve the fragile environment and the diminishing wildlife.
Significantly the order was issued on World Environment Day.
The order said that in all Govt functions, the usage of disposable and plastic materials and bottled water should be discouraged.
There should be no killing of birds within the vicinity of the town area (effectively within a radius of 5 sq km).
Further anyone using/spotted with Air guns within the vicinity should be immediately ceased by the authority and their licenses should be cancelled.
Further, there shall be complete prohibition on trading/selling of bird (live or its meat).
Hunting of wild animals during its breeding season (April to Sept) should be discouraged and there will be complete ban on trading/selling of wild animal meat in public space and market areas, the order said.
Villages practising Jhum cultivation should be encouraged to immediately plant trees in the already cultivated areas within the same year itself after the harvest season; photos and certificates that the same has been complied with shall be used as a parameter for awarding Govt schemes and projects in future.
All schools, Churches and institutions both Government and Non-Government, shop and business establishments functioning/operating within the district hqtrs should mandatorily maintain dustbin for biodegradable and non-bio degradable waste separately, and ensure that the a proper dumping site is maintained, it added.
All new construction be it house or any structure of any kind or activities in Gaidai Hills should be immediately halted; if such activities have to be taken up, prior clearance/approval has to be obtained from the DM.
The security personnel posted along the foothills for checking of any violation shall report to the DM or the SP every 3rd day.
Further tree counting shall be done at the Gaidai Hills and the same be completed within the month of June.
All sawmills, timber carrying trucks, store selling timber products should be accompanied by a valid document and get necessary clearance from Forest Department.
Any village indulging in timber trading to other States should mandatorily get clearance/necessary permission from the Forest Department and shall be carried out only if permitted by law.
The use of dynamo, explosives or poisonous substances/chemicals for fishing in the river should be immediately stopped.
If caught appropriate action will be taken up according to the existing law, the order said.
Human waste disposal in the rivers directly should be stopped.
In daily activities which involve destruction of environment, utmost care should be taken to ensure that the impact is minimal and that environment is well preserved.
Wanton/wilful destruction of environment will be severely dealt with as per the existing law of the land, the order added.
