Imphal, July 02 2009:
The woes of the Phungyar A/C who have been reeling under acute food shortage because of crop failure last season have been worsened by absence of ration agent.
According to a press release issued by the Mapithel-Thoubal Range Development Committee (MTRDC), the Ukhrul DC issued notification for appointment new ration agents on June 1 .
The order said that the tenure of the old agents would expire on June 30 before the newly appointed agents take over on July 1 .
However, Rajya Sabha MP Rishang Keishing proposed some names for appointment as ration agents after the notification was issued.
But the DC and DSO Ukhrul could not annul the notification issued earlier.
In the meantime, FCS Commissioner asked the Ukhrul DC to extend the period of the old agents of Phungyar A/C till August 31 .
As such, the question of who should be ration agent of Phungyar A/C still remain unsettled, thereby leaving the people in dire straits.
The MTRDC further appeal to the Ukhrul DC to respect the sitting MLA.
