28 year old Yumnam Lalit s/o Y Neta, Rural Development Director was abducted by two unidentified armed persons from his Chingamathak Yumnam Leikai residence this morning.
Somehow, Lalit arrived home at about 2.30 pm safely.
The unidentified persons came to the residence of Y Neta at about 10.30 am and asked if the family elder was at home.
To this, Lalit replied in the negative.
Then they took away Lalit at gun point.
Identity and motive of the abductors could not ascertained as yet.
However, it is reported that the abduction might be related to monetary demand.
There has been a demand of Rs 10 lakhs from one KCP (MC) group to the Rural Development Department, disclosed a police source.
Notably, Neta's residence was attacked with gun shots on two occasions sometime back.
Imphal city combed: Police Commandos conducted search operation at three different places of Imphal city today and frisked all the people including women.
In the forenoon, the Police Commandos of the Imphal West District conducted the search operation simultaneously at Thangal Bazar and Paona Bazar.
Later in the afternoon, the Commandos also herded all the people behind Mapal Kangjeibung and verified them on after another.
However, there is no report of any arrest made in these operations.
Search Ops yield illicit liquor: Imphal west district police personnel launched simultaneous search operations at mapal Kangjeibung and North AOC areas this evening leading to seizure of large quantity of Indian Made Foreign Liquor bottles and about 200 litres of locally brewed alcohol have been seized.
Moreover, 18 persons were also hauled up from these locations on charges of consuming and selling the illicit liquor during the search operations launched under the supervision of SDPO (Imphal West) S Ibomcha.
Such operations would continue in Imphal areas in the future also, the SDPO informed.
Mention may be made that Manipur had been declared a dry State more than a decade back.
