GST dissemination workshop for MLAs held

A one day Goods and Services (GST) dissemination workshop for the MLAs was held today at Classic Grande, Chingmeirong, Imphal.
The workshop deliberated on different aspects of GST which is will be rolled out throughout the country on July 1 .
Speaking at the inaugural session, Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar Singh said that the workshop is being organised to help the MLAs to have knowledge about the proposed legislation-State GST Bill which will be introduced in the State Assembly on June 2 .
Expressing concern over the absence of Opposition Members in the discussion, Deputy Chief Minister said that all the MLAs need to know the proposed legislation before introducing and passing it in the Assembly.
He said it will help in resource mobilization in the State as well.
He also appealed to the dealers to register in GST at the earliest so that their business is not affected.
Commissioner (Finance) Vivek Kumar Dewangan said that 22 States have adopted the GST legislation so far.
The Bill is likely to be passed within first week of June this year in the State also.
He said, the new tax regime has proposed to be levied from manufacturers upto consumers in different level.
All farm products will be levied 0% tax while the maximum tax slab will be 28% under GST.
GST for handloom, an important sector in North East, will be finalised in the 15th GST Council Meeting.
Thari Sitkil, representative, GST Council and Anurag Goel, Commissioner of Taxes, Assam also spoke in depth about GST during the workshop.
