Kikhonbou attends Thangmeiband meet

"It is unfortunate that trivial issues are often blown out of proportion, and people lack mutual respect in the State", said Kikhonbou Newmai, MLA Tamei AC and Vice Chairman Hill Area Committee, Manipur.
He was speaking as chief guest at the general body meeting of Thangmeiband Tribal Development Committee held today at the resident of Jyotin Waikhom, Secretary Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee.
The ST, SC, OBC reservations and schemes have been taken up by the Government for the development of tribal and backward people.
Survey is being conducted to check the development and extend the reservations and schemes as per the result, Newmai added.
Stressing on the need to maintain unity, think bigger and effectively take the benefits, the Vice Chairman asserted that schemes under the Tribal Welfare and Social Welfare are for the development of tribal and suppressed people.
During the meeting, Jyotin Waikhom briefed on the establishment of the Committee and said it was formed under the objective of uniting around 3000 tribal voters out of the total 27,000 voters in the area.
Politics should be done for the sake of the society and not for indulgence.
The zero garbage work being taken up by the Imphal Municipal Council after proposed by Congress and passed in the Cabinet is a good step, though it is not yet very effective due to increase of population, he added.
The meeting was also attended by Soihem Haomei, Chairman Tamenglong ADC; Thambaljao Phaomei, Vice Chairman IMC; and Jangamlung Panmei, Ex-Minister.
