Even as non-Congress parties in the state have decided to come together and stake claim to the formation of next government once the results of the elections to the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly is declared, the ruling Congress is still confident of gaining absolute majority and has started chalking out strategies for the post of Chief Ministership.
According to sources in MPCC, there is nothing to worry over the decision of non-Congress parties to come together and form the next government as ruling Congress party is certain to get absolute majority.
The decision of the non-Congress parties is nothing but hoping against hope and it is not an issue in Congress.
Sources said that the general feeling in Congress is to choose a leader who would be able to solve the problems being faced by the people.
The matter has been discussed and chalked out various strategies in this regard.
However, unlike in the past, this time there is quite a hassle among the Congress leaders as to who should be elected as the leader of CLP.
Apart from Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, there are certain leaders who would like to vie for the coveted post.
Nevertheless, senior party leaders giving serious thought over arriving at a consensus leader who understands the present situation and would be able to solve all the problems, sources revealed.
Meanwhile, another source said that the issue of CLP leadership would come to light once the election results are out.
Plans are also afoot for organizing camp at Delhi as done in the last election.
But this time, the fight for CLP leader is not likely between Chief Minister O Ibobi and MPCC President Gaikhangam since the latter has not shown an interest to the post of Chief Minister.
This time the battle for the CLP leadership would be between Ibobi and a young and dynamic Congress candidate, who has come out successful in many previous elections.
