Imphal, August 18, 2012:
Renewed calls for sustaining public cooperation to the continuous endeavour for developing Meetei Mayek marked the 9th foundation day celebration of Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillol Apunba Lup (Meelal) held today at Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace Compound.
As chief guest of the celebration, Education minister Moirangthem Okendro Singh expressed that despite belated initiative to revive the script Meelal has been carrying out its task appreciably.
Pointing out to the general public on the need to understand significance of protecting and promoting one's own script, the Minister also asked all concerned to extend support and cooperation to Meelal activists in their endeavour.
he also pledged to initiate all possible measures for budgetary allocation towards further development of the script.
Speaking on the occasion, Meelal president Sh Tomba Mangang opined that Meelal completing nine years of existence is itself an indication that significant progress had been made in reviving and developing the script.
There is still more scope for improvement of Meetei Mayek as the script is being upgraded for every new academic session since its introduction as a school curriculum, he said.
Stating that script of a particular community testifies not only the people's origin but also illustrates its cultural heritage, Tomba urged the people for continuous support and cooperation to Meelal.
