Theatre festival from May 22

Imphal, May 18 2011:
Manipuri Ensemble, Imphal under the aegis of Ministry of Culture will organise the State level festival of contemporary plays at the auditorium of JNM Dance Academy from May 22 .
Speaking in a press conference held in this regard at Hotel Imphal, Organising Committee Co-ordinator and senior journalist K Sarojkumar Sharma said, the main objective of holding the festival is to bring an extra push to the theatre movement in the State.
The festival will leave diverse messages of the current generation for the future generation.
Saying that almost all the participating plays have already taken part in the National level festivals, Sarojkumar Sharma added, in all, seven theatre groups would take part in the festival which would start its shows at 5 pm daily.
Taking part in the press conference, Festival Director Kshetri Jugindro said that theatre buffs would be free pass during the festival.
He also urged different organisations of the State not to call any time of bandh or general strike during the seven-day festival.
All the participating groups would interact with the media and audience after their respective shows, he added.
Manipuri Ensemble's Abhigyan Shakuntalam will be the opening play of the festival which will continue till May 28.Baniyan Repertory Theatre's Rajshri Baghyachandra, Theatre Mirror's Antagone, Deal Repertory Theatre's Bhagavtajyukam, Paradise Theatre's Angangba Kabirie, Ougree Repertory Theatre's Chandalika, Actor's Repertory Theatre's Mangal Yaodraba Numit will be staged on May 23, 24, 25, 26, 27 and 28 respectively.
