Imphal, January 15, 2012:
Continuing its sensitization campaign among Christian voters and candidates for ensuring a free and fair election to the state Assembly, All Manipur Christian Organisation (AMCO) organized a day-long seminar at Leimakhong yesterday.
It was the 14th seminar in the series being conducted by AMCO in different parts of the state to sensitise the voters and the candidates, particularly those belonging to Christian community.
Inaugurating the seminar as Chief Guest, President of AMCO Rev S Prim Vaiphei called upon the Christian voters to exercise their franchise judiciously and not to compromise with their voting rights for some monetary benefits.
He observed that at the time of exercising their franchise, the voters should keep in mind why the level of crimes and corruption in Manipur has been ever increasing.
There can be peace and normalcy in Manipur only when the voters understand their rights and duties properly.
Pointing out that during election time voters and candidates in the hills indulge in various malpractices which voters in the valley would not even dare to think of, Rev Vaiphei also called upon the Church leaders to maintain neutrality in election related matters.
The inaugural function of the seminar was also attended by Pastor of Christian Centre Church, Leimakhong Thangboi Baite as President and Member of AMCO Rev Dr Lalpi Vaiphei as Guest of Honour.
Participating in the seminar as a resource person, Dr Leven Serto of Martin Luther Christian University, Shillong observed that there can be no good governance until and unless the voters understand their rights thoroughly and elect righteousness representatives.
Only then there can be love and communal harmony among all the communities.
The seminar was attended by around 100 Church leaders and public of Leimakhong and its surrounding area.
