Minor found dead at Observation Home

Imphal, November 13 2018:
A 16 year old boy, who was also a class 12 student from Thoubal, was found dead in a suspicious manner at the Observation Home located at Takyel, Imphal West today.
Speaking to media persons, the victim's father claimed that he received a phone call from the officials of the Observation Home saying that there was a problem with his son and added that he was not given any further information even when he insisted.
He continued that when he went to the Observation Home, he found that his son had hung himself from a ceiling fan of the home where he had been staying since November 3.Explaining that there was a trial against his son yesterday, the father alleged that some marks were also visible on his son's body indicative of torture by the IO of the case his son was involved in.
The father claimed that during yesterday's trial, the IO had alleged that the deceased is the accused in the case of a minor girl of Thoubal district who allegedly committed suicide on October 30.However, the IO failed to mention specific details, he added.
The father of the deceased juvenile continued that during the course of investigation into the death of the minor girl, the IO beat and tortured his son and asked if the law permits torturing or thrashing an accused juvenile on suspicion.
He mentioned that earlier he spoke with his son and during the call, his son had told him that as per the Board members of the Observation Home he will be freed after the tense atmosphere following the death of the minor girl subsides.
Pointing out the IO of the case is the 2nd OC of Mayang Imphal PS, the father claimed that the IO even threatened him after yesterday's trial as well".
Appealing the CSOs of the State to support in finding out the truth behind the suspicious death of his son, the father demanded the authority concerned to deliver justice for his son at the earliest.
He further mentioned that he will not take his son's corpse if justice is not delivered and raised questions as to why the IO gave the news of his son's death to the family members of the minor girl who allegedly committed suicide, before him.
Inquest of the dead body and its surrounding were done by the forensic team today and the body was sent to RIMS morgue for post mortem.
A case has been registered at Lamphel PS as well.
On the other hand, the Superintendent, of the Observation Home, Laimayum Manoj Kumar Sharma of Singjamei claimed that the Board members inspect the home on a regular basis and the victim was found dead between 6.30 and 7.30 am today during one such inspection trip.
He continued that the victim had been staying at the home since November 2 and he had interacted normally with other inmates.
