Imphal, June 03 2020:
The emergency joint meeting of tribal students bodies ATSUM, KSO-GHQ and ANSAM while appreciating the efforts of the State Government under the leadership of N Biren Singh, Chief Minister of Manipur in tackling the COVID-19 pandemic and the repatriation exercise of State natives stranded across the country, have also discussed the COVID-19 pandemic situation in hill districts and put forth some points for immediate intervention.
A press release issued by ATSUM urged the Government to make provisions for isolation wards in all the District Hospitals where symptomatic or highly suspected persons can be cared for and also to immediately install COVID-19 testing laboratories in all the hill district headquarters for facilitating faster and extensive testing of people quarantined in the centres.
The student bodies joined the appeal of the Education Minister Thokchom Radheshyam to private school authorities of the State to refrain from charging tuition fees from students during the lockdown period.
Saying that the appeal made by the Education Minister to private school authorities to provide a monthly salary to its teachers would put the private schools in financial difficulty or pressure, ATSUM urged the State Government to provide assistance to the private schools so that they can pay off the teacher salary and at the same time waive the student tuition fee.
