Imphal, June 03 2012:
"I have secured letter marks in Mathematics, which is the most feared subject of all blind students and I will continue to study further in government school, which is often discarded by normal students, to prove that government schools are not that bad" .
This was stated by Thokchom Anjalina, a student of Govt Ideal Blind School, Takyel, who cleared the HSLC examination, 2012 conducted by Board of Secondary Education Manipur scoring 70 percent aggregate marks with letter marks in Mathematics.
In a tete-a-tete with Hueiyen Lanpao, Thokchom Anjalina, who is the daughter of Th Dorendro of Sagolband Khamnam Leirak, informed that blind students find it quite difficult in solving Mathematical problems not only in the examination hall but also inside the classroom.
They could hardly understand whatever that is being taught inside the classroom.
"But it was conviction that if normal students find it so easy and can also obtain full marks in Mathematics, why should blind students fear the subject", Anjalina exclaimed and added that with this view in mind and a challenging motive in heart, she went forward to achieve her desired goal.
Visually impaired persons should not have inferiority complex, instead they should challenged everything that comes their way, she exhorted.
Anjalina further informed that since she has achieved letter marks in Mathematics, it is her desire to pursue further studies in a Government Model Higher Secondary School and show the normal students, who often have poor opinion of government schools, that government schools can also be an ideal learning place and where quality education is imparted.
Anjalina disclosed that she would go for Teachers' Training course after her graduation in Delhi and become a teacher in future.
"I want to take up Science in class XI but since there is law which prohibits blind persons from taking up Science stream, I have no option but to take up Arts", she added wishfully.
On the other hand, successful blind students who appeared in HSLC Examination, 2012 were felicitated at a function organized by Students Welfare Association for the Blind, Takyel at the Home for the Blind, Takyel today.
The felicitation function was graced by Ng Bimola, member of Takyel Zila Parishad, W Durgabati, Headmistress of Government Ideal Blind School and Padmashri Laishram Nabakishore as Chief Guest, President and Guest of Honour respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Ng Bimola said that the future of a society lies in the hands of student community.
So, it is high time that the student's community be led in the right path.
In doing so, the role of the teachers and the parents cannot be ignored.
They should see that the students/children do not take the path to drugs and violence.
Padmashri L Nabakishore observed that we should encourage the visually impaired students.
