Imphal, May 10:
A one day workshop on "Problems of Schools in Bringing Quality Education in Manipur" was organised by the All Manipur Recognised Private Schools Welfare Association, Bishnupur district at Loktak Christian Model High School, Moirang Lamkhai.
Speaking at the workshop, organisation secretary of the Private Schools Welfare Association Th Brojen said that according to a survey conducted by the association, there were only 120 school days out of 365 days last year.
Citing that China has 251 school days, largest in the world, Brojen urged for increasing the number of school days.
When there is a curriculum set with a long term vision, new and scientific methods of teaching, adequate infrastructure and collective efforts of teachers and guardians, quality education will come on its own, he asserted.
Taking part in the workshop, advisor of the association N Tomba inability of make education a free zone and absence of a proper education policy are some of the major impediments in bringing quality education in the State.
If one looks at Government schools, no one can expect anything from the Government, he asserted.
If civil organisations, student bodies and other organisations continue to perceive private educational institutions as sources for resource mobilisation, these institutions can never make any advancement, he noted.
Quality education can become a reality only when the Government, civil organisations, guardians, school founders, Principals and teachers are 're-educated and when all differences are removed between Government and private schools, he said.
He further called upon all to scrutinise mushrooming of private schools and commercialisation of education.
Many students and teachers who attended the workshop shared their thoughts and views on the topic.
They also interacted with the media.
