Imphal, August 05:
On top of winning the confidence and support of the people, the State can prosper only when the officials and their subordinate staff in various Government Departments performed their duties sincerely and with dedication, MLA of Chandel A/C Thangkholun Haokip has stated.
Participating in a special joint meeting of all the district level officers of Chandel district at the office chamber of Deputy Commissioner Norbert Disinang yesterday, Thangkholun said development of a district depends on the work culture of the officials and their subordinate staff who are running the Government Departments.
But unfortunately in Chandel district, the Government Departments seem to be existing only in name sake with many of the officials not attending to their duties and running the offices from their respective residences at Imphal.
This is the precise reason why the Chandel is remaining as one of the most backward districts of the State today, he said.
The MLA further observed that it is essential to find out why the development fund sanctioned for the district under various schemes is not being able to utilise properly.
It is also desirable on the part of the Government officials and their subordinate staff to perform their duties sincerely and with dedication so as to accelerating the pace of development in the district apart from winning the support and confidence of the people, the MLA noted.
While pointing out that the failure of the Government Departments to deliver the goods to the people is responsible for loss of public thrust to a large extent, the MLA categorically stated that asking money by the Government officials and their subordinate staff from poor people when they come to inquire about the developmental schemes is akin to compromising the prestige and reputation of the Government Departments.
In case of such instances, the matter should be immediately reported to the DDOs concerned of the Departments, he said.
He also hinted to the officials of the Departments for submitting necessary reports for taking up more developmental works like construction of official quarters, etc to the Government through the Deputy Commissioner of the district.
The first meeting of the district level officers for this year held with Deputy Commissioner in the chair discussed matters related to overall development of the district including setting up more market sheds and bus waiting sheds for the conveniences of the people.
Necessary steps for successful organising of the observance functions of the forthcoming Patriots' Day on August 13 and Independence Day on August 15 also taken up for discussion during the meeting.
SP of Chandel district, ADC, CO, heads of other Government Departments participated in the meeting which was also attended by MLA of Tengnoupal A/C Marung Makunga.
