Imphal, February 23 2017:
Chief Minister O Ibobi has called upon all the people of both the hills and valley of Manipur to stand united in the ensuing election so as to safeguard the territorial integrity of Manipur.
The Chief Minister was speaking at the flag hoisting ceremony of Congress candidate in Oinam AC Dr Irengbam Ibohalbi held at Irengbam today under the aegis of Oinam Block Congress Committee.
If the communal forces threatening the integrity of Manipur every now and then which cannot think beyond a single community must be defeated, the Congress party must be strengthened, Ibobi asserted.
In pursuit of power, BJP which has been conspiring to sow seeds of animosity among different communities across the country including Manipur, has been using anti-National elements like NSCN-IM and UNC as their cat's paw.
By nature, Manipuris are never subservient and they hate sycophancy.
But what is due to them cannot be denied, Ibobi stated.
It is rather disheartening that BJP has been politicising sports and culture in their attempt to befool the people of Manipur.
No Bill has been tabled or passed in Parliament for establishment of National Sports University (NSU) in Manipur.
Reacting to BJP's assertion that NSU would be set up in Manipur in case they come to power in the State, Ibobi asked did they mean NSU would not be set up if they fails to win the election.
When Congress party was in power at the Centre, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh announced that a National Sports Academy would be set up in Manipur and the same was set up promptly.
Many BJP Ministers and MLAs come to the State during every election and they made all kinds of tall promises but none of these promises ever see the light of day.
People are really fed up of their hollow promises and false propaganda, Ibobi remarked.
He then reiterated that BJP would not get even 10 seats out of the 60 Assembly seats of Manipur.
Acknowledging that it was people's faith and blessing which enabled to form three successive Governments during the past 15 years, Ibobi pointed out that Manipur is settled by many communities and there are a number of issues.
He then appealed to all the people to re-elect the Congress party so that all these issues can be resolved.
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, Commerce and Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam, MLA K Ranjit, former MLA Y Jiten and candidate I Ibohalbi too spoke at the flag hoisting ceremony.
