Workshop on Keibul Lamjao held

A two-day 'Consultative stakeholder workshop for preparation of nomination dossier for inscription of Keibul Lamjao Conservation area as UNESCO World Heritage Site' began today at the conference hall of Forest complex located at Sanjenthong under the aegis of Manipur Forest Department (Wild Life Division), Government of Manipur and UNESCO Category 2 Centre for 'World heritage management and training for Asia and the Pacific region', Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun.

Speaking at the occasion Wildlife Institute of India (WII) Director Dr Binod B Mathur stressed the need to preserve sites of cultural and natural importance.
The consultation workshop is being held to discuss the feasibility of inscribing Keibul Lamjao National park which is the only home to Sangai (Brow Antlered Deer) as World heritage Site.
Additional Principal Chief Conservator, Forest, PN Prasad; Indian Institute of Forest Management, Bhopal, Director and former PCCF, Government of Manipur, RB Lal; Principal Secretary, Government of Manipur, Shambhu Singh and former director WII, former Chairman MPSC Dr Seboi Singh also attended the opening day of the consultation workshop.
