Farmers training prog on rodent control in Tengnoupal district held

A one day farmers' training programme on Rodent control in Tengnoupal district was held today at the training hall of Directorate of Agriculture, Sanjenthong .
The programme organised by District Agriculture Officer, Chandel and Central Integrated Paste Management Centre, Imphal was graced by Ph Rajendro, Director of Agricluture, Y Shyam, District Agriculture Office, Chandel and O Tarunkumar, Assistant Director, Central Integrated Paste Management Centre, Imphal as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively .
Speaking at the programme, Rajendro expressed unhappiness on the mass scale destruction of crops caused by Rodent in Tengnoupal district .
He advised the farmers not to use rodenticides and pastes procured from any store or market without consulting the experts or officials of Agriculture Department as they have adverse effects .
Maintaining that there are many ways to control rodent, including using of light and nets besides chemical using method, Rajendro stressed on the need to identify suitable techniques and methods in controlling rodent in the State .
He also appealed to the farmers whose crops had been affected by rodent to make every possible effort to control the menace and not to leave the affected crops unattended so as to yield at least few products this year .
Assuring that the Agriculture Department will provide every possible help to the farmers, he urged them to take benefits from schemes that will come in the future .
He further appealed to them to come at Agriculture offices in the State and inform whenever they face any problem regarding agriculture .
Shyam highlighted the characteristics of rats and the reasons why the species often attack crops .
Rodenticides were distributed to the farmers by the Department during the programme .
Meanwhile, according to Morung who is the chairman of Kampang Khullen village, the loss incurred by the rodent attack on standing crops and granaries in Tengnoupal district is estimated at Rs 1.5 crore.
