Ukhrul, August 18, 2012:
The oldest Government Higher Secondary School in Ukhrul district headquarters, Ukhrul Higher Secondary School (UHSS) is running without its Principal and Vice-Principal for almost 4 years and lack of teaching staff have seriously affected the careers of altogether 749 students.
Also the total strength of 250 students of class X1 & X11 mainly from the science stream had skipped the academic calendar year due to non-availability of science teacher.
The students of UHSS were not taught even "Chapter One" of Physics so far, said Wisdom a Class X1 (Sc) student who also informed that his class has so far not seen the face of the Lecturer.
Another student of X11(Sc) Sochihan expressed that classes of Chemistry and Physics were entirely stopped after the Lecturers appeared in the class room once.
Addressing a press meet, R Ringkahao, a senior Lecturer of UHSS, who shoulders the posts of Principal and VP of the school, said that the reason for lack of teachers in the school is mainly non-extension of service period to contract teachers and delayed payment of salaries.
Observing further that, the Lecturers find very hard to avail taxi fares for attending the classes daily under such circumstances the impact and consequences was born by the students without any fault of theirs.
He urged the government to lend serious attention for the larger interest of the students by posting a regular Principal and v/principal in UHSS at the earliest time.
