Kuki Movement for Human Rights (KUMHUR) has urged the Prime Minister for taking up action against the militants who planted landmines which have allegedly killed more than 26 Kukis and compensate the landmine victims.
In a representation submitted to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, vice chairman of the rights body informed that one more Kuki Evangelist Thongkhomang Touthang s/o late Nohkhohem Touthang of Molkon village became the victim of the landmines planted by the militants on November 16.These landmines have been planted in the Kuki land and to date, the official count of Kuki landmine victims is twenty-six including Thongkhomang Touthang, the representation said, while charging that the State Government authorities have not taken care of one Phalkholam Khongsai who survived landmine blast on October 10, 2006 and is still undergoing treatment at RIMS Hospital, Imphal.
Inspite of many pleas, the Government of Manipur has neither protect the Kuki civilians from landmines nor uprooted the camps of the militants from the region, the representation said, adding that this in total violation of human rights of the Kuki people who could no longer move around freely in their own land for cultivation or for their daily activities.
