Imphal, September 18:
Suspended underground activists reportedly fired lethode bomb and guns at a vehicle of the 11 Assam Rifles near Lansonbi Keithelmanbi (along National Highway 53) under Patsoi Police Station at around 9.10 am yesterday.
The incident took place while the 11 Assam Rifles personnel were coming in three vehicles from Tamenglong.
The last vehicle was a bus.
The suspected underground activists who were apparently lying in wait in a white coloured Tata Sumo near Lansonbi Bazar first of all targeted the bus with a lethode bomb and latter released a volley of firing before fleeing.
The lethode bomb, however, exploded before hitting the target.
There is no report of any human casualty in the attack, though some holes made of bullets were found on the body of the bus.
Police recovered 16 empty cases of AK-47 Rifles from the site of the attack.
