Khangjrakpam Arjun (14) of Khoijuman, Bishnupur district will bag this year's National child award for becoming the youngest mountaineer of the country who scaled Mt Banderpunch peak.
Arjun will receive the prestigious award from Minister of Women and Child Development, Krishna Tirath in a function to be held at Bigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on November 14 .
Arjun, the second eldest of four siblings, grew up brilliant both in studies and in sporting activities.
Arjun's father, Kh Ibohanbi left for New Delhi to witness the award conferring ceremony of his son who is a Class IX student of RIMC, Dehradun.
Arjun is among 25 children between the age group of 4-15 years selected for their exceptional achievements in various fields including academics, art, culture and sports.
The awards include one gold medal with cash prize of Rs 20, 000 and a citation and 24 silver medals with cash prize Rs10, 000 and a citation.
Arjun, who desired to become an Army officer after appearing NDA scaled 2340 feet Mt Banderpunch peak in Himalayan range on June 17 this year.
President of Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association (MMTA), Leishanthem Surjit, said the association will felicitate Arjun when he arrives here.
