Imphal, November 13 2009:
Based on reports which appeared in some sections of the media today, the state police have clarified that neither the state government nor the police has anything to do with the two witnesses - who deposed before Justice (Rtd) PG Agarwal Commission, probing the BT Road incident of July 23 - who the JACs against the killings of Sanjit and Rabina alleged that they were hired by the government.
Denying the allegations leveled by the JACs, a statement issued by the SSP of Imphal West district, L Kailun asserted that the two witnesses came on their own voluntarily to depose before the commission.
It further noted that it is unfortunate that the two JACs seem to have considered anybody deposing before the commission in a manner not agreeable to their views as a government witness and an enemy of the public.
On the calibre of the bullet which caused the death of Rabina, the police statement said it would be premature to make any conclusion at this stage.
It added that the same would be brought out in due course of time in the right forum may be a court of law or in the judicial commission.
"The two JACs are requested to participate in the Judicial Commission of Inquiry so that they can avail the opportunity of cross examining the witnesses and exposing the doubtful ones instead of merely making misleading statements," the police stated.
