Manipur police help bring peace in the State

There has been a remarkable improvement in the security scenario in the state during the last 15 years under the supervision of Manipur Police Department.
The department with a total strength of 33,744 personnel of all ranks till 2016 which was 15,770 in 2002 are working round the clock.
The Manipur Police Department has 97 Police Stations, 6 number of Manipur Rifles and 9 numbers of Indian Reserve Battalion in 9 districts.
The other units of the department are Forensic Science Laboratories, Manipur Police Training College, Home Guard, Criminal Investigation Department (Special Bureau)/(Crime Bureau)/(Security)/(Technical), Manipur Police Telecom Organisation, Narcotics & Affairs of Border, DG Control Room and Central Motor Transport Workshop.
The Manipur Police has made tremendous achievements in counter-insurgency, investigation and maintenance of law and order.
During these 15 years, the department signed many Suspension of Operations and Memorandum of Understandings with the different extremist groups based in hills and valley which helped in bringing peace in the state.
802 extremists laid down their arms and were rehabilitated.
2,197 Under Grounds were detained under National Security Act since 2002-2016.Apart from it, Police and Security Forces arrested 16,448 extremists and recovered 13,421 arms and ammunition.
The Manipur Police Training School, Pangei was upgraded as Manipur Police Training College since September 23, 2009.Newly recruited ASI/SI ranks, police constables and riflemen of MR/IRB battalions are imparted basic trainings at the MPTC.
Refresher courses and other familiarisation courses for other ranks and IPS/MPS officers are also held from time to time.
President's Police Medal for Gallantry and Police Medal for Gallantry were awarded to 296 police officers for their exceptional bravery.
20 police personnel were awarded President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service and 110 personnel received Police Medal for Meritorious Services.
Chief Minister's Police Medal for Gallantry was given to 31 police personnel and Chief Minister's Police Medal for Outstanding Devotion to Duty to 19 personnel.
The Manipur Police department personnel also outshined in the field of Games and Sports.
The department won over all winners titles in the Police Badminton Championship held in Imphal in 2012-13.The department came into limelight when Olympian Mary Kom, serving as SP (Sports) who was nominated as a Member of Rajya Sabha in April this year.
During the period under report, a total of Rs 4,22,83,18,112 was released for different schemes under Police modernisation like construction of police station buildings, Counter Insurgency Training School Jiribam, Manipur Police Training College.
Different types of vehicles, many sophisticated weapons including Glock, Pistol Ghatak Rifles, Night Vision devices, anti-riot equipment were procured.
The Intelligence Branch has been modernised with the purchase of modern and scientific equipment.
The plan for installation of CCTV cameras in Greater Imphal are under process.
Police Stations and offices of Senior Police Officers are covered under Crime Criminal Tracking Network and Systems which is a project under Central government for creating a comprehensive and integrated system for effective policing through e-Governance.
Implemented by the National Crime Records Bureau, the system includes nationwide online tracking system by integrating police stations across the country.
Ministry of Home Affairs sponsored a total grant of Rs 11,62,28,000 for implementing CCTNS in the state and 8,065 personnel were trained for the scheme.
To tackle the increasing crime cases related to misuse of internet, a Cyber Crime Unit was also established in Imphal West on May 8 this year.
More than 400 cases related to Cyber Crimes have been registered so far.
The department has proposed setting up of a dog squad to help the personnel in tackling menace of drugs and narcotics and to detect.
