Imphal, December 26 2016:
The Manipur Peoples' Party (MPP) observed its 49th Foundation day at their office near Mapal Kangjeibung today.
Taking pot shots at National political parties, president of MPP N Sobhakiran, said that these parties have made Manipur extremely dependent on the Central Government.
He stated that Manipur was economically stable before joining India but after merging with India, leaders of National political parties have been leaving no stones unturned to make the State dependent on the Centre for everything and named the Congress and BJP as examples.
MPP stands on the belief "we should develop the State ourselves," he added.
N Sobhakiran further said that there is the need to legalise Ganja and help the State earn as much revenue as possible.
This is an example of the Centre not willing to let Manipur prosper, he alleged.
General secretary of MPP, K Krishnachandra said that MPP was at one point of time one of the powerful parties in the State.
Several beneficial works were taken up in just the 11 months tenure of the MPP led ULP Government when Md Allimudin was the Chief Minister, K Krishnachandra recalled and added that some of the works were observance of Patriot's Day on August 13, division of Science, Arts and Commerce of Dhanamanjuri College, establishment of the then Regional Medical College now RIMS, establishment of Indira Gandhi National University in the State, establishment of Manipur Public Service Commission, observance of Khongjom Day on April 23, founding of Board of Secondary Education, Manipur, establishment of Govindaji Temple Board, installation of Loitang Khunou spinning mill etc.
