Health awareness campaigns held in Tamenglong

District Health Mission Society, Tamenglong under the captainship of Dr Chambo Gonmei, CMO/DMD Tamenglong organised health awareness campaign on implementation of Jana Shuraksha Yojana (JSY), Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakam (JSSK), strengthening immunisation, importance of breast feeding and other related convergent health programme like RNTCP, NPCB and NVBDCP from Sept 23 to 25 at PHC Haochong, PHC Noney, Khundong village and PSHC Nurathel.
According to a statement, Dr Azin Maringmei, DMO Tamenglong spoke on various vector borne diseases, its causes, preventive measures and treatment aspect.
S Ibomcha Singh, STS and W Binod Singh, STLS spoke on Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme while Dr Chambo Gonmei, CMO/District Mission Director dwelt on new welfare schemes like JSY, JSSK and the importance of immunisation of pregnant mothers and children against killer diseases like TB, poliomyelitis, diptheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough) and measles.
Dr Gonmei said that all pregnant women and new born and infants below 1 year are entitled free referral transportation, pick-up and dropping of mother; free diet for three days for normal delivery in the hospital and seven days free diet for those who undergo CS; free blood and urine investigation; free drug consumables; free blood transfusion; free treatment for sick new newborns and infants upto 1 year.
He also informed that the DHMS, Tamenglong would organise a mega event in the near future.
Dr Jendum Golmei, MO (i/c) of PHC Haochong spoke on the importance of breast feeding.
During the immunisation day at Noney PHC, seven pregnant mothers were immunised and ten pregnant mothers had ANC while a total of 47 children were administered immunisation.
On Sept 23, the Village Health & Sanitation Committee meet was held at Haochong which was chaired by B Thambou, member of Tamenglong ADC, who is also a member of District Health Mission Society, Tamenglong.
The chairman emphasised on improving road connectivity and infrastructure development of the health centres.
Some of the committee members raised the issue of certain irregularities in attendance of staff which has affected the basic health care services.
Besides, issues like absence of proper toilets, electricity, staff quarters and fencing of the compound are raised during the meeting, the statement said.
The ADC member insisted all the staff to be regular in performing their duties while assuring to pursue realisation of other deficits like manpower, and other logistics to the higher authority.
The team also provided free health check-ups and medicines to interior villagers during the tour, the statement said adding that as approved by the Govt, the site for setting up of Tie to Care sub-centre under NRHM has been identified at Khundong village.
The medical team also inspected the newly constructed PHSC at Nurathel which is situated 11 km off Khundong or 96 kilometres away from Tamenglong district headquarters.
The statement pointed out that like in other centres, the PHSC at Nurathel is also without toilets, electricity and water reservoir.
The centre has two FHWs (one NRHM staff and another FW staff) and one MHW but no attendant/chowkidar to look after the sub-centre.
