Bodies urge Govt on students' exodus

Expressing concern over the reported threats and attacks on the NE people in mainland Indian cities, the Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO) has urged the State Government to take the issue of attacks on NE people to the Central Government.
Stating that the attacks on NE people is a threat to the fabric of democracy where the foundation of this country was built, a statement of the KSO (GHQ) signed by its general secretary, Sasang Vaiphei demanded that the Central Government should take strong exception to the atrocity.
Acknowledging the development as purely the work of some vested interest group with parochial attitude who are out to destabilise the law and order of the country, the KSO statement said that the concerned Government must take no chance to give a room for the manifestation of such design.
It urged the Government to assuage the fear of the NE people and prevent the mass exodus.
At the same time, the KSO also appealed the NE denizens to maintain peace and restrain from any retaliation which could set off a chain reaction of mass carnage while cautioning the NE people in the South to take extra precaution and remain vigilant.
The KSO further appealed North East Students' Organisation (NESO) and its constituent member organisations to open a temporary transit relief camps in Guwahati and other convenient places so as to assist students who are fleeing for home.
Meanwhile, MLA and President of NCP Manipur State Unit, L Ibomcha Singh has urged the Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde to take up appropriate measure against the guilty criminals who prompted the fleeing of many NE students from mainland Indian cities.
A representation submitted by L Ibomcha to the Home Minister has also urged for the safety of the NE students, and Manipuri students in particular in various cities across India so that the students could pursue their academic activities without any emotional disturbance.
On the reported threats to NE people residing in mainland cities to leave their cities, L Ibomcha also sought the intervention of the Home Minister to tactfully nib the rumours in the bud so as to soothe the surcharge emotions and sentiments of the NE students.
