MEELAL observes Mayek adoption day

Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillon Apunba Manipur (MEELAL) today remembered the day on which Meetei script was first implemented in school education after decades-long adoption of Bengali script in the State.
MEELAL organised a programme to mark the occasion at Manipur Press Club today.
It was on this day in 2005 that the State Government agreed upon MEELAL's demand to adopt Meetei script in school education starting Class I .
Following the historic implementation, use of Bengali script in Manipuri subject has been switched over to Meetei script upto Class VII now.
MEELAL President Nongdalenkhomba, former President of MEELAL, Yumjao, social worker Poireihanba and ISTV News Producer BK were the presidium members of the function.
Prizes for the Meetei Mayek competition held on May 1 were also distributed in today's function.
MD Shoaib Khan of Islamic Baby English School, Wahengbam Phajabi of Brighter Care Academy and M Dijendro Singh bagged first, second and third prizes respectively in the Category A .
In Category B, Jebita Okram of Little Flower School, Leishangthem Onil of Diligent Public School and Sagolsem Nandeshwori Chanu of TIMES Uchiwa got first, second and third prizes respectively.
Padmashree L Nabakishore, AMWJU President designate A Mobi and noted filmaker Surjakanta were also present at the occasion.
Padmashree L Nabakishore also announced scholarship for one year to MD Shoaib Khan, first prize winner of Meetei Mayek competition in Category A .
